Don't ask...don't ask

As the debate rages on I get more infuriated by it. I don't understand the logic behind the policy. It's basically a stance that says the military wants to ban known homosexuals but at the same time doesn't want to know who is gay. I've been told that unless I serve in the military I wouldn't understand what having gay people serve alongside with you entails. An immediate example that pops up are the showers. I used to work out in a gym in the Village in NYC. LOTS of gay guys there. Didn't bother me. I've slept in the same room as gay guys. Didn't bother me.

And I could be off base here but it seems to me most of the resistance is coming from the male side of the fence. I don't see a lot of protests from the ladies. Any women out there in the military wish to chime in? And for the guys, are you as against gay women serving as you are men? Just asking.

  1. There really isn't a lot of resistance to getting rid of DADT anymore except, unfortunately, in the Senate. The recent survey of the military showed that most servicemen/women don't think it's a big deal, and yesterday's ABC News poll showed 77% of the public in favor of repeal.

  2. I'm with you Tak, that is EXACTLY what I think about the whole thing. I mean, if they WANT to serve just let them.

  3. I served 9 1/2 years in the Navy. Didn't care about ANYBODY'S sexuality. I don't want to hear about the waitress you picked up or anything. Sex is supposed to be something enjoyed between two consenting adults, not the world. There are too many laws concerning what happens between people. I have many lgbt friends, some were in the service with me. The big question then is: So?

  4. Ex-Marine here.

Don't care about who wants to serve in the military.

Also believe in open immigration. Ethnic diversity is what made this country strong. (all of the 9/11 terrorists were here legally)

I consider myself a conservative; although libertarian would be a lot closer.

People have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I take that very seriously.

  5. Well, well, well...looks like DADT will go the way of the dodo. Sweet. But the cynic in me is telling me I shouldn't pop the champagne just quite yet...
