Yay, more white people as Asians! This time it's Hiroshi Sakurazaka's All You Need is Kill.
Racebending.com picked up on this a little while back. Check out their sweet feature on it and other movies that have followed a similar path including the much dreaded/anticipated live-action Akira movie. I think Kaneda is being played by Mitt Romney. Might want to fact check that first.
In contrast, here's a link to a story set in Japan with real Asian actors that seems to be written by someone with authentic interest in and respect for the culture. OK, not a movie, but a short run of an off-Broadway musical playing soon in Chelsea.

Yeah, what the heck?
ReplyDeleteI'm not an expert on these two actors, but I think that Ms.Michelle Yeoh or Mr.Chow Yun-Fat can handle any tough acting role that you give them.
How about it, Hollywood?
This is kind of related. There is a 1961 musical film, titled: The Flower Drum Song. I think it has a cast of mostly Asians and Asian-Americans.
ReplyDeleteIt stars Nancy Kwan. I think it was written by Caucasian men, however.
